Job Location: Chicago, IL
Job Summary:
The Sr. Technical Product Owner-Policy and Product is accountable for defining, shaping, and governing the end-to-end technical solutions that support a portfolio of products within a value stream. This role works in close partnership with Product Owners, Architects, and Engineering teams to ensure business needs are translated into cohesive, scalable, secure, and compliant technical solutions.
Rather than owning a single product, the Technical Product Owner focuses on how systems work together-aligning architecture, integrations, data flows, non-functional requirements, and platform capabilities to solve complex business problems. The TSO ensures that proposed solutions are technically feasible, strategically aligned, and executable by delivery teams.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of business intent, architectural design, and engineering execution.
Main Responsibilities:
Own the end-to-end technical solution for initiatives within the value stream, spanning multiple systems, platforms, and teams.
Translate business outcomes and product needs into holistic technical solution designs, including architecture patterns, integrations, data flows, and system interactions.
Partner with Architects to align solutions with enterprise standards, modernization strategies, and target-state architecture.
Evaluate solution options and clearly articulate technical tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations.
Collaborate daily with developers and engineering leads to clarify solution intent, unblock delivery, and adjust designs as implementation details emerge.
Ensure technical requirements are well understood and reflected in epics, features, and user stories with appropriate technical depth.
Support sprint ceremonies by providing solution context, dependency awareness, and clarification of complex technical scenarios.
Define and prioritize technical enablers required to deliver solutions (e.g., APIs, integrations, data models, platform capabilities, architectural runway).
Ensure non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, reliability, security, observability) are explicitly defined and planned.
Ensure solutions account for upstream and downstream system impacts, including data sourcing, transformations, lineage, and reporting needs.
Partner with data, platform, and integration teams to ensure solutions are consistent, reusable, and well-documented.
Validate that solution designs support analytics, operational reporting, and future extensibility.
Partner with QA to ensure test strategies reflect solution complexity, edge cases, and integration points.
Collaborate with InfoSec, Compliance, and SRE/DevOps to ensure solutions meet security, regulatory, operational, and audit requirements.
