Starts and stops pumps, fires gas or oil fired boilers, adjusts fuel and airflow, regulates water level, reads gauges to check water level, steam pressure, operation of valves and auxiliary pumps. Performs minor repairs on boilers and related equipment. Assists skilled workers in performing major repairs. Administers chemicals to closed systems, cooling towers, and boilers. Tests water for chemical content. Assists in over maintenance of pump stations.
