Monitors, organizes and responds to all medication related recall notices. Tracks, trends and reports out monthly on the organization's medication utilization and spend. Works with the pharmacy admin team to create and adhere to an annual drug and pharmacy supply budget. Collaborates with the Departments Finance to ensure charges are accurate and updated on a regular basis. Identifies medication cost saving opportunities. Ensures medications are well stocked to meet the needs of the hospital licensed inpatient and outpatient programs in addition to other patient care locations across the health system. Maintains high standards within the department and executes pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission Accreditation standards, Institute for Safe Medication Practices standards, Federal and State regulations. Compensation Pay Range: $26.89 - $36.19 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1 - Maintains pharmacy stock in all areas, assuring proper inventory levels, rotation of stock, and current dating. 2 - Initiates purchase orders and procures all pharmaceutical supplies and maintains adequate supply levels for proper dispensing procedures. Obtains purchase order numbers from Purchasing Department for required items. 3 - Controls drug budget for department(s) on daily/monthly basis as per direction of Pharmacy Operations Manager and Chief Pharmacy Officer. Maintains balance sheet of daily spending. Monitors the monthly budget figure and reports daily variances to Operations Manager. Responsible to review and validate financial reports as it relates to pharmacy budget. Reports monthly or as determined by Operations Manager. 4 - Assists in troubleshooting issues with maintaining Drug Inventory with Issues such as Backordered Medications. Contacts Drug Manufacturers to obtain Direct Shipments when possible. Alerts Pharmacy Management team when unavailable medications may affect pharmacy. 5 - Monitors and Reviews Drug Recalls. Coordinates the quarantine of affected product with pharmacy staff members. 6 - Maintains inventory in clean and orderly fashion. Inspects designated areas of the department for cleanliness and outdated drugs. 7 - Responsible for purchasing of all stock via pharmacy purchasing system and vendors automated system. Uses reports of vendors automated purchasing system and pharmacy Automated Dispensing System to optimize inventory management and turnover. 8 - Responsible for receiving orders, unpacking orders, verifying contents, restocking shelves, and returning purchase order to receiving. 9 - Ensures accurate prices on invoices according to contracts and agreements. Corrects and follows-up all incorrect bills/orders. 10 - Maintains vendor contracts and price lists. Meets with sales representatives as needed. 11 - Prepares supplies and stock for return to vendors for credit. 12 - Maintains paperwork for credits due from wholesalers and direct vendors for proper recording prior to forwarding to accounting department. 13 - Controls preparation of physical inventory and return of outdated merchandise. 14 - Uses vendors automated system to identify and obtain best pricing on equivalent products. 15 - Responsible for the updating of price information in manual or computerized pharmacy system. Ensures appropriate pricing/contract pricing loaded in information system. Maintains an historical log of price changes. Reports significant changes in price, contract status and purchase volume whenever indicated, to Operations Manager. 16 - Responsible to produce budget variance reports (as variances occur) to identify contributing factors and unusual purchase patterns. Submits to Pharmacy Operations Manager or Director of Pharmacy Services. JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education - Preferred Associate's degree preferred. Minimum Work Experience Minimum of one (1) year inventory control or purchasing experience in a hospital or healthcare institution preferred. Pharmacy experience preferred. Required Licenses / Registrations RPT - Registered Pharmacy Technician Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities Duties necessitate background in inventory control and clerical functions.
