Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field
Five (5) years of experience performing progressively responsible work in a federal, state, county, or local emergency management agency
One (1) year of experience developing or supporting school safety initiatives
Preferred Education and Experience
Three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience
Required Licenses or Certifications
Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) designation through the Michigan State Police/Emergency Management Homeland Security Division within two years of hire
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
Preferred Licenses or Certifications
Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) designation through the Michigan State Police/Emergency Management Homeland Security Division at time of hire

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under direction, assists in all phases of emergency management including the analysis, planning, decision making and assignment of available resources to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies. Represents Emergency Management in a countywide, multi-disciplinary school safety planning process. Supports school districts in assessing risks and vulnerabilities. Oversee projects and initiatives in School Safety, Emergency Management, or critical infrastructure protection. Develops and coordinates public safety training and exercise programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in all phases of emergency management including the analysis, planning, decision making and assignment of available resources to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies.
Makes recommendations using best practices and legal requirements to assist with the development of programs that coordinate prevention, response and recovery from incidents of violence and other significant events.
Provides assessment and coordination of emergency plans for county, local government emergency operation plans including individual school and school district emergency plans.
Represents Emergency Management as part of a countywide, comprehensive, multi-disciplinary school safety planning effort.
Coordinates school safety efforts with other Emergency Management initiatives to protect critical infrastructure.
Assists in the activation and operation of Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs).
Oversees and supervises activities, programs or initiatives in school safety, emergency management, and critical infrastructure protection.
Develops and maintains an active Risk and Vulnerability Assessment program for schools, communities and other critical infrastructure.
Plans and directs public safety training sessions, exercises and other educational activities promoting school safety, violence prevention and general emergency preparedness.
Provides emergency leadership and staff support to professional and business community groups in relation to emergency management and school safety.
Responds to emergency situations on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
Updates knowledge through conferences, seminars and in-service training.
Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
