Position Purpose Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in providing clinical and quality support, guidance and education to the nursing staff, health care aides and Edmonton Centre of Hope staff through the development, implementation and training of the employee health education programs. The Assistant Educator (RN) is also responsible to support the Clinical Education Manager in providing continuing care and assisting in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, visitors and other staff members. Accountabilities: Education & Training: Assisting the Clinical Education Manager to ensure all nursing staff are able to meet resident care needs by providing clinical education and training in topics such as palliative care, pain management, abuse prevention and awareness, medication admin, safe bathing, transfer safety, risk management, infection prevention, non-violent crisis intervention, etc. Collaborate with the Clinical Education Manager to evaluate nursing staff and health care aide competencies and identify required education/training requirements. Research/identify internal/external programs to meet education/training requirements. Schedule, co-ordinate and facilitate/conduct in-service education programs to meet identified needs. Track and document all training that nursing staff have received and ensure education is done within three (3) months of hires and annually, or as otherwise required. Ensure that nursing staff is current in competencies, assessments, licensing, certification and other educational/training requirements. Resident Care: Assist Unit Manager in monitoring Health Care Aide activities to ensure that resident care standards are met and maintained in accordance with current policies and procedures and the Continuing Care Health Service Standards. Liaise with nursing department, committees and multi-disciplinary departments to advance goals and quality improvement plans. Network and liaise with other educators and other health care professionals to advance the quality of resident care. Support the Clinical Education Manager in all aspects of providing continuing care. Administration: Interact with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers as required Maintain confidentiality of residents' personal information. Understand and follow all health and safety policies and procedures. Work safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, other staff members and residents. Promptly report all actual or potentially hazardous situations. May be required to participate in the Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Attend off-site meetings as required by the Clinical Education Manager Perform other related duties as required to ensure the effective operation of the residence. WORKING CONDITIONS: Working environment is typically at work sites within residential settings. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Degree in Nursing Education from an approved accredited nursing program. Possess a current nursing registration as an RN in the province of Alberta. Certified trainer for Standard First Aid & CPR an added advantage Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience in an Assisted Living or Long Term Care community is preferred. Prior experience working with seniors. Must have clinical education experience. Must have prior experience in teaching and developing clinical education and training materials in topics such as abuse prevention and awareness, medication administration, safe bathing and showering, safe transfer and lifting, infection prevention and control, palliative care and risk management.
