About the role

Weir Marine Engineering is seeking an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer to join our Naval Applications Engineering Team, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) test and evaluation activities across a range of applications including the Uncrewed Vehicles (UxVs) Center of Excellence for air, surface and underwater solutions. This position is based in Dartmouth NS, with work performed in an office and lab environment, along with field assignments that may include time onboard ships. Responsibilities

  • Trial Support: Support independent verification and validation trials by planning activities, operating equipment, and recording trial data. Perform analysis on trial data to prepare trial reports, documenting trials and maintenance activities through technical and procedural writing.
  • System Evaluation: Perform technical and performance evaluations on various RCN systems, including assessing compliance with applicable requirements, coordinating the resources necessary to conduct tests and trials, and liaising with stakeholders involved in the evaluation process.
  • Prototype Design: Investigate and design prototype concept solutions for various UxV platforms (e.g., sensor mounting) or shipboard systems for evaluation testing, including CAD design and fabrication through in-house 3D printing or external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
  • Mandatory: Bachelor's degree of Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent domains. Work Experience in related fields is considered an asset.
  • Mandatory : Must be in good physical condition for measurements and inspections activities including onboard ships alongside or at sea (inshore or offshore), be comfortable using ladders.
  • Mandatory: Skilled in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels (both in-person and electronically) with peers, supervisors, and clients. Capable of drafting reports and technical correspondence.
