About the role
Serves as Safety Technician for the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department (MWR), Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan (CFAY). Incumbent performs administrative, training tasks in support of the MWR Facilities Manager and MWR Department safety activities. Documents various safety actions and maintains record file. Maintains liaison with CFAY Safety Office and higher organizations on accident, fire and property loss reporting and other safety matters. General knowledge of an extensive body of laws, regulations, standards, and codes applicable to facilities, building structures, workplaces, machinery, and equipment inspected, enabling the technician to determine whether activities are in compliance therewith and corrective actions needed. Practical knowledge of established Federal statutes, safety standards, protective devices, and accident prevention measures. Knowledge of inspection, interviewing, and survey techniques sufficient to identify occupational hazards and to determine elements giving rise to mishaps. Knowledge to identify standard Hazardous Material without supervision. Skill in the use of computer applications, software and programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and other programs. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel. Ability to train others. Ability to research, analyze and compile data and present findings. Ability to maintain records and reports
