Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
Recent nursing graduates or RNs looking to transition into Obstetrics are encouraged to apply.
Must have or be willing to complete the following required certifications and education: BCLS, NRP, FHS, Breastfeeding within the first 3 months of hire.
Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level

Position Overview
Scarborough Health Network Women and Children's program is excited to offer a specialized orientation program to Registered Nurses (RNs), who are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, who are interested in pursuing a career in obstetrics. This comprehensive program is designed to equip nurses with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in labour and delivery, postpartum and newborn care.
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of Women and Children's you will be responsible for providing excellent care to diverse patient populations within our multi-service environment. Our Women and Children's is a patient focused total care model and you will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families.
The Registered Nurse (RN) role models' clinical excellence and the core competencies of the practice standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), as well as the policies and procedures of Scarborough Health Network (SHN). The RN works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The RN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nurses make a commitment to lifelong learning.
Structure :
Combination of clinical rotations, didactic sessions and simulations training and mentorship.
Focus Areas : Labour and delivery, antepartum and postpartum care, neonatal care, obstetrical emergencies, operating room, patient education and interprofessional collaboration.
