- TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
- Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
- Communicates and interacts with various groups of people (e.g., public, recreation center patrons, city officials, media outlets) to inform and promote parks and recreation activities and special events and to answer questions, handle concerns, and gather feedback.
- Ensures the inspection and maintenance activities of recreational facilities and equipment by ensuring vehicles are maintained, completing work orders, and reporting maintenance issues to ensure a safe and operational working environment.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations and management of a Recreation Center by meeting with staff to coordinate activities, and providing assistance to community members and staff to ensure the safe and efficient operations of facilities.
- Participates in classes, activities, and other programs by serving as a class instructor, game official, etc. in order to facilitate a variety of activities when no other staff is available to lead or prep for activities.
- Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.

Incumbents establish policies, procedures, and guidelines for athletic programs, leagues, and special events; develop and monitor departmental budgets; and oversee the maintenance and inventory of citywide parks and recreational facilities. Recreation Center Directors also supervise and develop subordinate staff by providing training, guidance, and performance feedback. In addition, they collaborate with the public, city officials, and media representatives to promote Parks and Recreation programs, special events, and community engagement initiatives.
