A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school; and
two and one half (2 ½) years of inspectional or investigative work experience involving the enforcement of laws, ordinances and/or rules and regulations; and
one (1) year of work experience related to pipeline installation, or other related waterworks construction or installation.
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Hawaii type 3 of equivalent), and any other appropriate licenses or certificates as required of the position.

Job Summary:
Inspects various phases of waterworks construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and agreements of work; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:

Inspects various phases of waterworks projects involving the construction and installation of pipelines and reservoirs, buildings, intakes, wells, and sources;
Meets with contractors, engineers and other concerning methods, procedures, and materials to be used in various phases of construction;
Interprets plans and specifications and may, with approval from supervisor allow minor deviations on plans;
Checks line and grade in the construction of concrete drains, laying of sewer pipes, or in the laying of pavement materials;
Checks forms for workmanship, alignment, and strength;
Checks clearing and grubbing of rights of way;
Checks the pouring of concrete or asphalt; inspects the erection of false work, forms of the timbering and bracing of trenches;
Inspects street trenching and backfills;
Keeps records of labor, materials, and prepares reports as required;
Maintains daily log of contractor's work progress, test results and notes on deviations; maintains records and files;
Checks to see that safety practices are observed;
Follows up on restoration of facilities, site and adjacent and vehicle assigned; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
