We're looking for a Senior Product Design Mechanical Engineer to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for industrial design, architecture, and design leadership. In the day-to-day, you will be responsible for guiding the architecture of multiple products after leading a thorough industrial design study, encompassing the environment, installation, usability, and aesthetics considerations. We have a tremendous amount of telemetry and access to customers that help guide our design process. You will crawl around equipment and industrial facilities working directly with our customers to ensure we lead the industry in our product design. We run a collaborative process working closely with Product Management, EE, FW, EPM, and Hardware leadership to make excellent tradeoffs and decisions. Throughout this process, you'll mentor other engineers. The US and Taiwan PD teams are supported by the Supply Chain team, laboratories, JDM design resources, and a growing supply base. This role is based in our Taipei office, and it is a hybrid position required to office as needed. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time and proximity to an international airport. In this role, you will: Ship successful products. Research: stay abreast of the latest trends in related products, fabrication techniques, vendors, quality assurance, processes, etc. Work on Industrial design and Architecture: Evaluate system feature tradeoffs and create the system specifications for development with product management and cross-functional engineering teams. Support the development process from industrial design studies and prototyping through field validation according to performance, cost, and schedule goals. Support the development process regarding reliability testing and product field performance, Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role: 10 years of experience shipping high-volume hardware programs at scale with ODM and JDM partners overseas. Systems design expertise includes thermals, rugged enclosures, antennas, and batteries. Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost. Worked on a wide variety of systems for different use cases and environments including automotive, indoor, and outdoor industrial areas, and whatever we may do next. BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering. Ability to travel up to 20% when necessary. An ideal candidate also has: Experience with design for telematics or Vehicle environments.
