Job Summary:
Performs a variety of routine, repetitive manual tasks at a solid waste landfill not requiring the continuous performance of a mechanical or trade skill; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:

Picks up debris and litter from landfill grounds and perimeter fencing;
Loads, moves, and unloads dirt, materials, supplies and equipment;
Excavates with pick, shovel, and other hand tools;
Backfills holes and ditches;
May check trucks and other equipment for oil, gas, and water;
May occasionally help other landfill employees by performing heavy manual work in lifting and carrying tools and materials;
Carries rocks, materials and lifts heavy items while performing the daily routine in all weather conditions;
May safely direct traffic at the working face or other landfill area to the unloading areas and ensure that waste is placed in accordance with local, State, and Federal regulations;
May perform temporary assignment to other landfill positions as needed;
Attends training sessions relative to landfill operations, environmental control and monitoring, and health and safety;
Visually screens each load of waste to ensure site compliance with State and permit requirements;
May install fences, clean tools and equipment, and paint;
May assist with applying alternative daily cover, and removing unacceptable waste from the working face;
Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts; and
Performs other related duties as required.
