About the role

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC), within the Volunteer Support Service also known as the Center for Development & Civic Engagement (CDCE), at the North Battlefield VA Clinic (NBVAC). The purpose of this position is to lead staff in performing patient escort services for the health care center. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/27/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-03 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-02. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: Six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of a Health Aid or Technician at the GS-02 grade level. Qualifying experience includes duties such as: escorting patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed; assisting patients with entering or exiting vehicles or treatment areas using safe handling techniques; greeting and providing clear information to patients and visitors; delivering specimens or supplies; following established procedures and safety protocols; and performing basic administrative tasks such as recordkeeping or answering phones. Your experience must be described in detail within your resume. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) year of education above high school in a field related to health care (such as health sciences, nursing, or a closely related field). If qualifying based on education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial) with your application. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school (only education in excess of the first 6 months/9 semester hours can be combined with experience to meet the total qualification requirements).
