The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts. The DOC Legal Division is currently seeking an intern to join the Office of the General Counsel. Under the supervision of experienced attorneys, interns will have the opportunity to review discovery, draft complex legal documents, conduct investigations, and perform legal analyses. Summer Graduate Interns will prepare for and actively participate in administrative court proceedings while shadowing attorneys on active cases. This role demands a proactive individual who can assist in legal research and drafting assignments, thereby providing valuable support to the legal team. Interns will gain practical insights into employment discrimination law litigation and the operational policies of large city agencies. - Develop legal writing experience by drafting and reviewing motion papers and research assignments - Leverage legal research experience by researching discrete questions of law, i.e., "Under 42 USC 1983, what must be established to demonstrate that a corrections officer failed to render appropriate medical aid / demonstrated deliberate indifference?" - Gain first-hand experience in employment discrimination law litigation and policies and directives of large City agencies SUMMER GRADUATE INTERN - 10232 Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
