Familiarity with EPA, CARB, NHTSA, and HAZMAT regulatory schemes is preferred. Significant law firm or Federal or State regulatory agency experience is required. In-house counsel experience is strongly preferred. Must be a solution-oriented team player who is very comfortable working closely with engineers in a dynamic, cross-cultural environment. This role requires agile learning and frequent communication with overseas business teams. A Day in the Life: Who We're Looking for: Advise on new and in-use vehicle emissions, on-board diagnostics and fuel economy regulatory compliance, including EPA, CAFE and CARB regulations. Advise on all facilities and operations environmental compliance including permitting, monitoring, reporting, incident response, hazardous materials and chemical content. Advise on environmental and sustainability initiatives, communications, reporting and marketing. Advise on vehicle safety and connectivity regulatory compliance. Advise on internal product (vehicle) quality investigations and, if warranted, on every aspect of implementing appropriate recalls and other field actions, including providing input to all associated filings and governmental, internal and customer communications. Advise and advocate in connection with government inquiries and investigations and help the company prepare to provide clear, robust, timely, and transparent responses to regulators. Collaborate with government/technical affairs teams and industry associations to formulate policy and rulemaking positions and associated communications. Provide preventative education and training to diverse client groups across the enterprise. Negotiate and prepare contract provisions concerning regulatory compliance aspects of business deals. Prepare correspondence, legal guidance and written reports to management. Participate in global and regional initiatives as valued member of company cross-functional teams. Proactively contribute to maximizing departmental and client efficiencies and simplify processes. Contribute to building brand value and achieving enduring profitable growth. Required: Minimum of ten years legal experience, including autonomous responsibility in relevant practice. JD degree from ABA accredited law school; member of bar in state of practice. Eligibility for admission to TN Bar or for TN In-House Counsel registration. Eligibility for any required authorizations from the U.S. government for access to export-controlled technologies. Proficiency with online legal research, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and word processors, as well as working knowledge of Excel. Travel: Occasional day or overnight travel, including international travel.
