About the role

The position of Architect for the City of Dallas involves general knowledge of construction industry standards in order to provide competent technical direction and supervision of multiple design and construction contracts necessary for successful delivery of high-performance Capital Improvement projects. The Architect position assists with implementation of a variety of building related requirements from sustainability objectives for new facilities to condition assessments of existing facilities, seeking continuous improvement in performance standards for new City facilities and major renovations. 1 Assist stakeholders with development of accurate Program requirements necessary to describe project scope and confirm alignment with allocated funding and assist with contract close-out and turnover requirements upon project completion. 2 Coordinate all aspects of City's procurement process for evaluation and selection of design consultant contracts and solicitation of construction cost proposals and facilitate recommended services proposals for contract award. 3 Negotiate contract scope requirement details and deliverables. Oversee the contracting process by developing plans and specifications, handling bids, and assisting in contractor selection and quality control. 4 Develop and implement project schedule and budget to maintain the Owner's approved planned scope of work 5 Direct architectural design process for renovation and new construction projects and support operational needs and priorities of the City's stakeholders. 6 Perform preliminary review and evaluation of design solution proposals for code compliance, accessibility and long-term durability and life cycle maintainability 7 Assist consultant with review of construction documents for Bldg. Permit process 8 Review and approve consultant Invoices and contractor Payment Applications; confirm progress achieved on both design and construction to support payment 9 Maintain audit-ready records on all design and construction contracts. 10 Prepare and present regular Reports in various formats for accurate dissemination of project scope, schedule, budget, as necessary to communicate current status. 11 Attend continuing education and related training seminars to ensure State of Texas licensing requirements are maintained Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1 Knowledge of architectural design process, including development of building program requirements and implementation 2 Knowledge of the building construction process 3 Knowledge of City's procurement procedures and contract requirements. 4 Knowledge of regulatory standards related to building design and construction. 5 Proficiency with AutoCAD software and related building design systems. 6 Thorough understanding of project management from the Owner's perspective, 7 Ability to assess code requirements - structural, MEP and fire suppression systems 8 Ability to negotiate contracts and work with contractors and other personnel. 9 Effective communication skills - verbally and written. 10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in architectural studies from an accredited institution. (Required)
  • Experience (including equivalency) (Required)
  • Must be registered by Texas Board of Architectural Examiners as an Architect with a current license to practice. ( Registered Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners )
  • OR
  • Be certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards as currently eligible to sit for the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE). ( Currently eligible exam eligible for the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards .)
  • Licenses and Certifications (Required)
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • License: Registered Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners
  • Certification : Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, as currently eligible to sit for the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE).
