Rural Clinical School Part-time (20%), fixed-term position through to the 1st of July 2028 Base salary will be in the range $143,099 - $164,748 + 17% super (Academic Level C) Based at our Bundaberg Rural Clinic About This Opportunity In 2023 the UQ Medical School established eight geographically based Learning Communities and three are within the Rural Clinical School. The Learning Communities will bring together students, academics, clinical teachers and professional staff to provide an academic home where students learn from each other and are supported to thrive as they develop as a medical professional across the MD program. The Academic Guidance Lead plays a crucial role in supporting students throughout their Doctor of Medicine program. This role involves close collaboration with other RCU academics to enhance the Learning Community environment, fostering inclusivity and a sense of belonging for both students and staff. The primary focus is on creating a mutually supportive environment that enables medical students to thrive. Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: Provide specialised academic advice, using a ' step-care approach' , to students enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at the Regional Clinical Unit (RCU). Provide high quality academic leadership support and enhance the progression of students through each of the four years of the MD program. This includes academic guidance, remediation, pastoral care, career guidance and extension activities for students. Research: Maintain personal academic standing including the pursuit of research and scholarship. Supervision and Researcher Development: Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and management and development of student capability and skill. Citizenship and Service: Consistently demonstrate behaviours that align to the UQ values. Contribute proactively and respectfully to the RCU and Learning Community. About You Medical qualification and a General Practice Specialist or non-GP Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with AHPRA. Experience in student support and/or clinical supervision of medical students and demonstrated skills in education at undergraduate, postgraduate level and/or professional level. Demonstrated experience in teaching and knowledge of medical education. Demonstrated ability to engage effectively in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, establish effective relationships, and to manage disparate interests in an academic environment. High level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues and the relevant external partners. A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living and working in a rural and/or regional area.
