Requirements
A minimum of ten years' experience in underwriting, claims and/or brokering in Lawyers Professional Liability;
Four-year degree in business or related field from an accredited University/College, or equivalent related years of work experience;
Strong customer service focus and interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and excellent negotiation skills;
Strong analytical and organizational skills and excellent problem solving/decision making abilities;
Strong written and verbal presentation skills on both an internal and external basis;
Solid understanding of professional liability marketplace, industry specific emerging risks, and regulatory landscape;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
25% travel required.

Markel has an exciting opportunity to join the Professional Liability Product Line Leadership. Primary focus of this role is working with the Professional Liability E&O, Managing Director in the underwriting governance and continued development of the Lawyers Professional product line. This role will provide leadership, direction and support to underwriting team(s). It is also responsible for product profitability, growth and retention of new and renewal business, consistent with underwriting strategies and to achieve profit, loss ratio, and expense targets. Role will also provide coaching and training for underwriting staff based on results of underwriting audit review. Will build and maintain relationships with internal resources (Claims, Actuarial, Product Development, IT, Operations, Regulatory, Product Leadership, Regions, various underwriting and underwriting support divisions etc.) to coordinate services to customers and ensure that superior products are being delivered to our internal and external customers.
Assist in the continued product development, strategy and portfolio management of the Lawyers Professional Liability product;
Manage and handle account referrals from the Lawyers underwriters;
Assist underwriters in negotiations with brokers on program structure, premiums, retentions, and terms and conditions;
Assist with product development, language and endorsement drafting and maintenance;
Responsible for account auditing and compliance;
Work with product leader to achieve financial goals and metrics for the product line;
Work cross functionally to improve underwriting optimization;
Act as a knowledge expert on industry trends and helps facilitate comprehensive, relevant and effective underwriter training;
Work with Claims, Product Regulatory Services and Actuarial as needed.
