Job Description:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Charge Technologist, Ultrasound, the Technical Assistant will perform a variety of routine functions in support of ultrasound examination activities to facilitate enhanced productivity of the unit. This is a physically demanding role with duties and responsibilities including, but are not limited to:
Receiving patients from the main waiting room and in-patient holding area; verifying identification and escorting to the appropriate ultrasound examination room; escorting patients to other modalities for examinations.
Instructing patients to change appropriately for their examination and ensure their valuables are secured
Moving patients to/assist in the transfer of patients onto the scanning bed.
Upon direction from the ultrasound technologist, assist patients in leaving the department
Answering telephones and addressing enquiries appropriately, ie. Verifying/issuing patient preparations, checking on patient bookings, scheduling of IP requests, verifying orders and scheduling additional add-on examinations.
Coordinating patient transportation to and from the department with the patient care units.
Updating patient records in the Meditech computer system.
Assisting with restocking linen and supplies in the ultrasound department and remove soiled linen to the soiled laundry cart.
Preparing/setting-up supplies and instruments prior to examinations and clean-up following examinations; cleaning and returning of sterile trays to SPD or specified soiled utility holding location after use.
Assisting in maintaining the ultrasound work area in an clean and orderly manner
Co-ordination of the workload for the department including facilitating the booking of In- Patient requests and add-on examinations.
Participate in continuous quality improvement activities
Other duties as may be assigned

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma (or equivalent)
Current BCLS certificate
Direct experience with patients and working with patient health records
Knowledge of medical terminology
Administrative experience including answering telephones and responding to enquiries
Computer data entry and keyboarding skills
Demonstrated superior interpersonal, communication and organizational capabilities
Proven ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
Excellent work performance and attendance
