Job Summary:
The Corporate General Liability Claims Specialist is responsible for the oversight and strategic management of General Liability Bodily Injury claims arising from 7‑Eleven retail operations. This role provides direction to the Third‑Party Administrator (TPA), ensures high-quality claims handling, and manages complex and high-exposure matters. The Consultant partners closely with in-house counsel, defense counsel, internal business units, and external stakeholders to drive timely, accurate, and cost-effective claim outcomes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
TPA Oversight & Claims Management
Provide day-to-day oversight of the TPA responsible for General Liability Bodily Injury claims, ensuring compliance with established claim-handling guidelines, reserving practices, and performance expectations.
Monitor reserves, payments, and claim trends; identify opportunities to improve claim outcomes and reduce total cost of risk.
Conduct claim reviews, audits, and quality assurance activities to maintain accuracy, consistency, and service excellence.
Complex & Litigated Claims
Manage high-severity, complex, or litigated claims with limited settlement authority.
Partner with in-house counsel, paralegals, and defense counsel to guide litigation strategy, discovery, and deposition preparation.
Oversee counsel assignments, early case evaluation, and claim resolution strategy to mitigate legal and financial exposure.
Incident Response & Investigation
Coordinate internal processes for incident reporting, evidence preservation, video capture, and early investigation.
Support initial protected investigations when circumstances require legal involvement.
Identify claims with questionable liability or potential fraud; assist in directing special investigations.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Serve as primary contact for insurers, adjusters, defense counsel, and internal partners across Operations, Legal, Risk Management, and other departments.
Communicate claim trends, emerging risks, and insights to Executive leadership and Legal to support risk prevention and operational enhancements.
Excess & Coverage Management
Liaise with excess carriers on qualifying claims, ensuring timely reporting, documentation, and communication discipline.
Assist with coverage analysis, reporting obligations, and strategic discussions regarding high-exposure files.
Understand self-insured retentions (SIRs)
Interpret contracts (indemnity, additional insured), and franchise agreement dates that determine coverage types
Program Support & Special Projects
Participate in program improvements, including TPA performance evaluations, process enhancements, and technology initiatives.
Support special projects, data analysis, and risk mitigation initiatives as assigned.
Communicate with field teams related to safety recommendations.
