About the role
This position is part of the Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, Department of Energy. As an Economist, you will serve as an expert and senior advisor on domestic and global natural gas issues across the full value chain but particularly on natural gas trade, including analysis and review of applications submitted under the Natural Gas Act, and ensuring importers and exporters are complying with the conditions of their respective authorizations. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 4 of the following: Conduct the planning, development, and execution of significant economic research projects or programs. Develop and present comprehensive reports, studies, or policy recommendations related to natural gas and natural gas trade to senior decision-makers or stakeholders. Providing economic advice and consultation on critical issues that influence strategic planning, program direction, or policy formulation. Senior advisor on domestic and global natural gas issues, particularly trade "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
