About the role
The Machining Engineer is responsible for planning and designing tools, machines, and other mechanical equipment. This role oversees the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment while developing and improving manufacturing processes, process controls, and quality systems, including inspection and measurement methods. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. Fluent in GD&T. Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information. Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles. Experience with Capital Equipment specification & purchasing a plus. Primary author of CNC programs, launch and modify CNC programs as needed. Assist / approve modifications to existing CNC programs. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew. Use of drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications. Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems. Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification. Recommend Corrective action using quality tools such as 5W 2H ,5P SA or other as deemed necessary for items with a negative gap Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or technical institution Minimum of 5 years of experience in a machining center or machining production environment Hands-on experience with setup, maintenance, and operation of mills, lathes, Bridgeport machines, and CNC equipment Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Experience with AutoCAD, CATIA, and ESPRIT CAM Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) Preferred Skills and Abilities Knowledge of statistical techniques applied to manufacturing and assembly processes Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tools Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude is a plus Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively Experience with SolidWorks and Pro/ENGINEER (ProE) is preferred Working Conditions and Physical Demands To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
