The Pharmacist Specialist is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt specialty medication therapies, encompassing daily dispensing, medication therapy management, patient advocacy and therapy compliance. The Pharmacist specialist provides required oversight for pharmacy technicians, including preparation and dispensing of drugs and clinical pharmacy services and will collaborate with providers, pharmacy, and nursing staff to ensure timely medication access. Additionally, the pharmacist specialist will oversee inventory management, staff development, and ensure compliance with accreditation standards, state and federal laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
Handles all aspects of pharmaceutical care within the assigned location including supervision of pharmacy technicians. Participation in the development and training of clinical staff.
Triages and/or approve referrals to specialty pharmacies through coordination of data/ prescription transfers with specialty pharmacies to ensure warm hand-offs of patients.
Evaluates products and care plans to determine quality and cost-effectiveness. Assists with ordering and inventory control. Ensure compliance with the 340B program. Proactively seeks out pipeline medications, works with manufacturers and the wholesaler to gain drug access.

Education
Doctoral Degree, Doctorate of Pharmacy (Required) or
Bachelors Degree, Pharmacy (Required)
Program Graduate, PGY-1 (Preferred)
1 year Working with Specialty Pharmacy (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
Licensed Pharmacist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Licensed in the State of Virginia Upon Hire(Required) and
Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP) - The Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB) within 5 years (Required)
Valid Drivers License Required
