Job Description: The Supervisor of Pharmacy Patient Access will provide leadership and direction for the pharmacy medication access team. The Supervisor will be directly responsible for oversight of financial assistance, prior authorization, and appeal processes. The incumbent will also provide direction and leadership to pharmacy care advocates and pharmacy students/residents providing care for patients. This position requires a thorough understanding of personnel management, specialty pharmacy accreditation, and specialty pharmacy processes. The Supervisor will be a member of the Outpatient Pharmacy Services Leadership Team and will contribute to departmental oversight, teamwork, and strategy under the leadership of the Director, Retail and Specialty Pharmacy Services. The position requires the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals from all clinical disciplines regarding activities related to the improvement of medication use. Ensures that all activities are consistent with overall hospital objectives. The position demonstrates competence to provide pharmaceutical care for neonatal (birth-discharge), pediatric (birth to 11 years), adolescent (12-18), adult (19-65), and geriatric (66-over) patients. Essential Functions: Human Resources Supervise assigned pharmacy professional personnel in the specialty pharmacy and associated services. Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of professional and technical staff, including residents. Coordinate staff orientation, training, and competency assessment. Complete performance evaluations for direct reports. Coordinate and lead team and staff meetings for assigned areas of responsibility. Work with staff on an ongoing basis to improve performance, guiding and coaching staff in solving problems which arise in a day-to-day routine. Monitor the progress of assignments and performance of daily responsibilities for all assigned personnel, coaching and disciplining staff as necessary. Identify and resolve personnel issues in a proactive and timely manner, including appropriate follow-up as necessary. Address employee needs such as leaves of absence, family & medical leaves, and tuition reimbursement. Maintain productivity records for use in establishing staffing needs. Monitor vacation, sick leave, and holiday usage. Evaluate employee satisfaction and implement improvement initiatives. Precept students and residents. Develop and maintain a positive and healthy culture within all areas of oversight. Provide frequent and transparent communication to employees through verbal and written communications. Participate in staff meetings and provide routine communications when necessary to department employees. Specialty Pharmacy Services Develop and maintain efficient workflows within the specialty pharmacy. Routinely monitor key performance indicators, identify opportunities for improvement, and collaborate with employees to achieve improvements. Identify the most cost-effective systems for medication packaging and prescription delivery logistics. Ensure that the specialty pharmacy complies with policies and operating procedures. Ensure that the specialty pharmacy is following all state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy. Engage in clinical practice as appropriate to enhance specialty pharmacy services. Engage in the employee pharmacy benefit management program and formulary process. Customer Service Collaborate with all customers who receive services and maintain a high level of satisfaction. Ensure accurate and timely documentation by all employees providing access and affordability services Quickly perform service recovery with patients or customers when gaps in service or dissatisfaction occur. Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation Thoroughly understand all specialty accreditation standards that are applicable to UofL Health specialty pharmacy. Ensure UofL Health specialty pharmacy meets or exceeds accreditation standards set by all applicable accrediting bodies. Support the Coordinator, Accreditation and Outcomes to achieve and maintain all aspects of accreditation and reaccreditation. Ensure all specialty and ambulatory (retail)
