We are currently seeking a talented individual to become a Paddock Judge. An individual could be successful if they possess the following. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Inspects equipment of horses and riders in paddock before each race to determine that equipment meets track and state racing commission specifications Reads racing programs to schedule arrival of horses and riders in paddock area Examines horse's equipment and rider's attire to assure compliance with racing specifications Orders equipment changes to conform to racing rules Refers requests for equipment changes to racing officials Tells riders to mount and dismount Signals winning horse and rider to winner's circle Reports delays in paddock area and equipment changes to racing officials Examines credentials to prevent unauthorized persons from entering paddock area Verifies horses are in proper paddock stalls according to race number and post position Ensures proper flow of horses entering and exiting paddock for safety of participants Constant communication with judges on scratches, changes and up to date information on participants in the races Ensures horses are line up and ready to properly enter track for post parade according to scheduled post times Ability to work required overtime Regular punctual attendance required Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be knowledgeable on rules and regulations of the Arkansas Racing Commission Must be able to read, write legibly, understand and speak English Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs Must have excellent customer service/communication skills Must be able to respond to visual and oral cues Ability to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment. Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities Excellent problem-solving skills Ability to maintain a calm, professional and friendly demeanor in all situations Ability to handle several tasks at the same time Must be 18 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent required SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job does not have supervisory responsibilities. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arkansas Racing License. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and must have the ability to stand, climb, push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
