About this roleWhat a day of an Instructional Designer looks like:Manages course projects from inception to completion, in addition to consulting with faculty on optimal design of curriculum, instruction, and effective uses of multimedia. Collaborates with faculty to prepare and develop curriculum.Maintains records on status of template course development progress and of status and availability of college-owned courses. Maintains course shells and distributes templates for instruction.Promotes the effective use of distance learning technologies and online education, to include maintaining current knowledge of industry trends.Oversees searches for reusable learning objects, identifies appropriate learning objects meeting fair use standards and works with faculty in the design of such objects.
Develops evaluation products and methods and assesses the validity and appropriateness of instructional design to instructional objectives.
Researches and recommends advances in multimedia and course delivery software for use by faculty and others to improve delivery methods and operations with the assistance of faculty, vendors, and development team members.
Conducts needs assessment to identify knowledge, skills, behaviors, and competencies required in selecting or designing curriculum, and to incorporate technology into the teaching and learning environment.
Coordinates the scheduling of distance learning courses to include maintenance of course development schedule for college-developed course shells for distance learning.
Evaluates, researches, self-studies, and develops using new technologies and methodologies. Develops or conducts internal training in technical or professional skills. Includes personal computer training.
Supervises or participates in the selection, development, and coordination of the use of course materials and instructional media including videoconference courses, online courses, and interactive classrooms.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Four years of related experience
Knowledge of:
Online Course Management systems (i.e., Canvas or similar)
Online authoring tools (i.e., Adobe Creative Cloud, Respondus or similar)
Content Management System (CMS), website builder and application software
Current instructional design tools and software.
Skilled in:
Creative thinking and problem solving to explore new technology, processes, and approaches
Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
Ability to:
Research information for problem-solving
Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
Work independently and effectively on multiple tasks
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.
