About the role
Carma ( https://www.joincarma.com/ ) is an AI-native operating system for enterprise fleet operations. Fortune 500 construction, electrical, and disaster restoration fleets run thousands of commercial vehicles on our platform in production today. When a truck breaks down, gets recalled, or sits idle, our software detects it, builds the workflow, and drives it to resolution automatically. Ship a feature in the morning; a fleet manager in the field is using it within the hour. Why it's technically interesting: real-world software with messy, adversarial data - telematics streams, OEM recall feeds, vendor invoices, DOT compliance - fused into workflows that AI agents execute. The incumbents in this multi-billion-dollar market ship on decade-old stacks. We raised a $5.5M seed from Y Combinator, Soma Capital, and the founders of Superhuman, and we're driving toward a Series A. Stack: TypeScript end-to-end - React, NestJS, PostgreSQL + Prisma, AWS. Two founding roles, both heavy on ownership: 1) Founding Head of Engineering: $300K-$450K + 3-5% equity. Hands-on technical leader: the majority of your time writing production code, plus owning architecture, standards, and technical direction. Explicitly not a people-management track. 2) Founding Full-Stack Engineer: $175K-$275K + 2-3% equity. Own product surfaces end-to-end: ambiguous problem statement → scoped design → shipped to enterprise users. Onsite in SF six days a week, early-stage pace, high ownership and high expectations. Our process is fast, strong candidates go from first conversation to offer in days, not months.
