Job Summary: The Production Supervisor - 2nd Shift is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of production personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This role plans and assigns work based on equipment, material, and staffing availability, while maintaining accountability for production output, schedule adherence, and quality standards during the shift.
As the primary leadership presence on 2nd shift, this position plays a critical role in driving performance, resolving issues in real time, and ensuring seamless communication across teams to meet internal and external customer expectations. The person that fills this role is expected to work Monday-Friday, 3:30PM-11:30PM.
Essential Job Functions:
Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily production activities based on equipment capacity, material availability, and staffing levels.
Lead shift operations to meet production schedules, quality standards, and on-time delivery commitments.
Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with Maintenance to address issues and minimize downtime.
Evaluate production performance and adjust schedules or resources as needed to meet budgetary and shipping requirements.
Communicate production status, risks, and completion updates to management and cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineering to analyze production issues, including yield losses, lot failures, and customer returns, and implement corrective actions.
Ensure products meet specifications by overseeing in-process inspections and directing machine setup and adjustments.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
Participate in manufacturing planning, cost reduction initiatives, and cross-functional improvement teams.
Provide direct supervision, leadership, and accountability for assigned production personnel.
Proactively coordinate with first shift supervisors to ensure a seamless, well-communicated transition that maintains productivity, quality, and safety standards across shifts.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support the implementation and use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) on the production floor in coordination with Engineering.
Evaluate employee performance and conduct regular performance reviews and development discussions.
Address employee relations matters, partnering with Human Resources as needed.
Enforce company policies and administer corrective or disciplinary actions when appropriate.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and development of team members
Monitor attendance and timekeeping; address issues proactively.
Train, coach, and motivate employees to achieve performance, quality, and safety expectations.
Ensure adherence to established manufacturing processes and engineering-defined methods.
Review production documentation to ensure compliance and prevent unauthorized process deviations.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in a technical, manufacturing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or process-driven environment.
Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a production setting preferred.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
