The Segal Lab is focused on understanding mechanisms of chronic pain signaling by Dorsal Root Ganglia (DRG) sensory neurons. Specifically, our work aims to identify how the hormone and neurotransmitter, serotonin, modulates chronic pain in peripheral nerves. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Co-Op student to assist in a new lab initiative, investigating whether loss of the serotonin receptor, 5-HTR3A, in DRG neurons alters chronic pain behavior in mice experiencing neuropathy. This project will involve complex animal behavior analysis using genetic mouse models, along with computational data analysis, and basic molecular biology techniques.
