The Chief Education Officer serves as the senior leader for Denver Health's Office of Education, providing strategic direction and oversight for clinical education initiatives across Denver Health. The role works closely with the Chief Academic Officer and other leaders to develop the workforce of the future at a premier urban safety net system. This is an opportunity to build on and continue to grow a broad educational portfolio supporting clinical education programs, health professions learners, community outreach education, and workforce development initiatives from pre-health through CME and simulation. Existing programs-including pre-health, undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, continuing medical education, and simulation training-serve over 2800 learners annually, with strong ties to the Denver community and partnering academic institutions. This role will recruit and supervise designated educational staff, negotiate educational agreements, pursue and secure funding, evaluate program effectiveness, and serve as the point person for educational leaders across Denver Health. Housed within Academic Affairs, the Office of Education provides outstanding opportunities for education scholarship and research, while also partnering with the Office of Research to engage and support learners conducting research at Denver Health. Successful candidates will be MD or PhD trained. If filled by an MD, this position combines with ongoing Denver Health clinical work in the physician's specialty. Develops and supervises staff supporting clinical education programs, health professions learners, community outreach education, and workforce development initiatives from pre-health through CME and simulation. Provides enterprise-level strategic leadership for community outreach and workforce development, including designing, implementing, and scaling pathway programs (K-12, pre-health, community college, undergraduate, and post-baccalaureate) that broaden access to health professions careers and strengthen Denver Health's talent pipeline. Oversees and aligns three arms of educational development - (1) GME (with day-to-day GME operations led by the designated GME leader), (2) UME and other health professions learners (including non-MD learners), and (3) community workforce development-ensuring shared strategy, quality standards, outcomes measurement, and efficient resourcing across the portfolio. Builds and sustains partnerships with academic institutions, community-based organizations, school districts, workforce agencies, and internal clinical/service lines to co-develop educational initiatives, experiential learning opportunities, and career pathway programming across all health professions. Defines goals, metrics, and reporting for pathway programs, outreach education, and workforce development efforts (e.g., recruitment/retention outcomes, learner progression, equity impact, and community benefit), using data to guide continuous improvement and strategic investment. Serves as Designated Institutional Official (DIO); chairs the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Committees for Denver Health and Hospital Authority (DHHA) and Denver Community Health Services (DCHS). Serves as voting member for the University of Colorado GME and Affiliated Hospital Steering Committees; serves as alternate on the School of Medicine (SOM) Executive Committee. Negotiates academic affiliation agreements, working closely with other leaders at Denver Health. Facilitates strong relationships with the University of Colorado. Attends quarterly DHHA/SOM Affiliation Leadership Committee meetings. Facilitates strong relationships with other partnering academic institutions and the Denver educational community. Works closely with Academic Affairs leadership on shared academic initiatives, including facilitating research for learners at Denver Health and educational scholarship. Attends monthly Office of Academic Affairs leadership meetings. Monitors legislative and funding trends to position Denver Health for strategic educational growth. Manages disciplinary actions and remediation for learners and faculty to ensure policy and accreditation compliance. Works with the Chief Academic Officer and the Denver Health Foundation to secure educational funding. Advises and mentors Denver Health faculty, staff and learners to create an educational community and support
