The Operations Department is accountable to fulfill Driscoll's demand for fruit and the respective demand for plant material, innovation and research on plants, systems and techniques that can generate added value throughout the supply chain from plants to consumer Delight.
As part of the Operations Department, the Nursery Agronomist will focus on growing the best plants for our growers, ensuring on time, in full deliveries with the required qualities while gaining knowledge around our genetics to bring value to the entire region and enterprise.
This position will be based in Sidi Bouknadel, Morocco.
Responsibilities
Work with the farming manager to implement best growing practice and ensure the plants are grown to the highest possible standard of agronomy
Strive to innovate and adapt new growing techniques to improve the quality of the plants
Regularly walk the crops for pests and diseases ensuring sustainable control methods are in place
Design and manage fertilizer programs for all crops, both in substrate and soil production systems, working with the irrigation specialist to ensure crops receive the correct nutrition programs
Keep tracking on relevant technical records and meet certification requirements
Support the Nursery manager on the planning aspect to generate a clear work strategy for farming each crop each week
Regularly connect with growers to seek feedback regarding Nursery service level
Work close with Irrigation Specialist
Candidate Profile
Pre-Graduate or Master Degree in Agronomic Engineering
3-5 years of experience in horticulture required
o Experience with berry crops, irrigation systems and substrate production is preferred
o Experience with implementing IPM (Integrated pest management) systems is also preferred
o Rubus long canes production experience is an asset
Experience with hydroponic systems
Experience with berry crops
Proven experience working in a team environment
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
o Portuguese and English language fluency required
Ability to navigate in the complexity of a large farming operation within the company
Demonstrated proficiency with computer programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
