Seasonal Street Maintenance Worker

Responsibilities

• Operates a variety of specialty equipment and vehicles to complete construction and maintenance activities including trucks, snowplows, salt spreader, and hand and power tools.
• Maintains a safe job site and work environment by ensuring proper traffic control and safety standards as required by City, County, State and Federal regulations.
• Performs emergency duties, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours as required; may work modified hours as needed.

Requirements

• Experience: No experience is required.
• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. The ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.
• Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required. A class B commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements are required within six months of employment. Must be able to operate a commercial vehicle within the State of Kansas.

The Street Maintenance Worker I performs entry level, semi-skilled work in the inspection, construction, maintenance and repair of the city's streets, sidewalks, alleys, medians, curbs and gutters. They complete a wide variety of duties, such as hand excavation, heavy lifting, hauling materials, operating tools and heavy equipment, etc., as part of a larger crew. This job is the first level of a three-level career progression of Street Maintenance Worker I, II, and III.
