About the role
This role is directed towards cardiologists who are in the first few years of practice after completion of their FRACP (or equivalent), who have a keen interest in expanding their skills primarily in the management of advanced heart failure, including the investigative skills of right heart catheterisation and endomyocardial biopsies. This is a position with close, consistent supervision working alongside the cardiology heart failure specialist team and other cardiology specialists with a breadth of experience across public hospital work, in research and in private practice. As the Cardiology Heart Failure Fellow, you will provide the day to day clinical care and management of patients admitted under the Cardiology Heart Failure Unit, and provide a comprehensive heart failure consult service for patients under the care of other specialist units, including the perioperative heart failure optimisation of patients undergoing complex cardiothoracic surgery. You will participate in right heart catheterisations and endomyocardial biopsies. You will manage outpatients alongside the Cardiology Heart Failure specialist team, including in the Early Heart Failure and Long Term Heart Failure clinics. You will also undertake teaching and research duties within the Heart Failure Unit. In addition, responsibilities include teaching of junior staff, technical staff and colleagues, and participation in the research program in the heart failure unit. Classification and Salary Classifications for this position will range from HM25 to HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12) pro rata for part-time Your Contribution MBBS or equivalent RACP exams and completion of three core years of RACP approved cardiology training or equivalent Registration with AHPRA Current National Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain

About the Cardiology Department The Cardiology Department at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne is a busy tertiary referral unit providing diagnosis, consultation and intervention across all areas of cardiology. The Cardiology Heart Failure Unit comprises specialist Heart Failure Cardiologists, Heart Failure nurse practitioner and Heart Failure clinical nurse coordinators. We work closely with our intensive care and cardiothoracic surgical colleagues to provide comprehensive, advanced heart failure care through the whole spectrum from initial diagnosis of severe heart failure and management of cardiogenic shock with temporary mechanical circulatory devices to outpatient stability. The Catheter, Pacing, Echocardiography, CT and Cardiac MRI laboratories provide comprehensive cardiology investigations and management using state of the art equipment.
