How You Will Make a Difference
Initial Psychiatric Assessment
Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations on incoming patients
Crisis Intervention & Risk Assessment
Evaluate patients in acute psychiatric crisis
Determine level of risk (e.g., suicidal ideation, psychosis, aggression)
Implement immediate safety measures if needed
Decide urgency of admission or need for higher level care
Admission & Level-of-Care Decisions
Determine if the patient meets criteria for inpatient psychiatric admission
Recommend appropriate placement:
o Inpatient psych unit
o Partial hospitalization (PHP)
o Intensive outpatient (IOP)
Collaborate with psychiatrists or providers for final decisions
Coordination & Communication
Communicate with:
o Physicians/psychiatrists
o Social workers and case managers
o Emergency departments, law enforcement, or family members
Gather collateral information to support assessment
