Requirements

• IL PEL (Professional Educator's License; out-of-state applicants will need to apply for IL certification) with LBS1 Certification or Other Teacher Certification (Non-Substitute)
• Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish
• Must be flexible in the ability to teach multiple grade levels as student populations change
• Ability to teach a classroom of students within all basic instructional areas
• Ability to work with youth with emotional/behavioral/academic difficulties
• Ability to be flexible, work in teams and creatively problem solve
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively

The program provides support for English and non-English speaking children with disabilities by focusing on the whole child in their native language. Collaborative and data-based problem-solving approaches are utilized to develop appropriate interventions and progress monitoring. The classrooms integrate evidence-based strategies from the Structured Teaching Model developed by Division TEACCH, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Physical structure, visual schedules, work systems, communication systems, and sensory supports are thoughtfully integrated to optimize student success. Midway serves students in grades K-12 and those transitioning from school to life ages 18-21. Disabilities served include autism, emotional disabilities, specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, other health impairments, traumatic brain injury, and multiple disabilities.
