Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Acting as an initial Incident Commander for localized fire, medical, or hazardous materials incidents; 2) Conducting fire prevention inspections and facility walk throughs to identify safety violations; and 3) Delivering unit-level training to ensure crew proficiency in firefighting and rescue operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-13 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certifications, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Materials Incident Commander, Within the first year of occupying the position, incumbent must obtain and then continue to maintain the following: National Incident Management System certifications (NIMS): 15-700, 15-800, 15-100 and 15-200 15-300 and 15-400.
