Nursing Process: assesses responses to central vascular access interventions or treatment modalities; makes decisions about procedural or equipment modifications; makes recommendations for procedural changes; negotiates systems to implement change. Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process.
Case Management: acts as a resource for identifying patient needs related to discharge. Assists the case managers to develop/revise a case management plan; identifies and communicates potential solutions to variances.
Teaching: develops content for formal teaching for both orientation and staff development; communicates content for informal teaching; acts as a resource for patients/families, physicians and staff.
Discharge Planning: assesses patient/family needs related to discharge as applicable; offers input and additional resources in planning for discharge needs for a patient population.
Consultation/Collaboration: acts as consultant to staff and physicians; advocates for a surgical and/or radiological specialty or specific patient population and with specific problem which is often physical or technical in nature; assists with the development of new and advanced skills that are required to support the procedures within a specialty; assists in coordination of delivery of care and/or discharge by enlisting other resources.
Program Development: identifies specialty needs; contributes to and assists with the development of or expansion of programs within specialty.
Research: applies current research findings in practice; participates in data collection; introduces current research into clinical practice within surgical specialty or treatment modality. Maintains Central Access Database.
Professional Development: identifies annual goals for own professional growth and the means to achieve them; identifies annual goals for a specific specialty and incorporates these goals into the unit and/or division of nursing goals; responds to the needs of the community related to a patient population.
Administrative Responsibilities: assists in setting expected standards of performance within specialty; assists with evaluation of staff; contributes to the evaluation of orientation and on-going staff development needs; participates in orientation of staff to specialty; assists with analysis and implementation of systems to utilize available resources in an efficient, cost effective manner; participates in development of annual and operating budget in relation to specialty.
Community Outreach: supports community education efforts; assesses need, participates in and evaluates community education for specific population.
