The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement.
To prepare for and lead tutorials and facilitate discussion
To mark and grade course work (at least, but not limited to, presentations, participation, chapter summaries, essays (note: essays are returned to students by TAs by email or through Sakai), on-line student postings, mid term test and final exam) and provide constructive feedback
To enter grades into EXCEL spread sheets and Sakai
To proctor mid term test and final exam
To attend all scheduled seminar meetings with the course instructor and/or course coordinator
To provide students with your Brock email address so they can contact you with any questions about the course
To be available to meet with students if a meeting is requested about the course
To be familiar with the textbook
To meet with course instructor as required or course coordinator as required
Requirements
-Applicant must have or be enrolled in a Masters or higher degree in Tourism, Business Management or Sustainability
-Applicant must have an average of 80% or higher in 2 undergraduate degree courses in the area of Tourism Management or an equivalent undergraduate course area
-Applicant must have strong knowledge in the area of Tourism Management
-Previous successful teaching and marking experience especially at the first year level is an asset.
-Demonstrated knowledge in EXCEL and Brock University's Sakai-Based Learning Management System (LMS) or equivalent
-Work experience in the Tourism industry is an asset.
-Ability to perform the various duties of the position
-Available during normal office hours for group meetings
-Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
-Must be dependable and have strong time management skills.
-Previous experience in coordinating and managing people is an asset.
-High level of interpersonal skills and effective verbal communication
-Evidence of on-going professional development is an asset.
-Academic integrity and professionalism

Benefits
Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67 per hour. (Rate effective September 1, 2026)In cases where additional duties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate.
