Research associates are expected to coordinate and support students in the development and execution of research tasks and to support faculty investigators, senior researchers, and laboratory personnel. The job consists of supporting the principal investigator in the development and execution of research in the area of materials science, plasma spray, laser/materials interactions, and/or ceramic oxide coatings through the gathering of data and its analysis through computational and analytical methods, through the writing and publishing of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and through the identification and submission of applications for extramural funding. The lab focuses on u sing the ecological engineering framework to address various anthropogenic challenges to marine systems. We utilize and enhance natural mechanisms & systems to mitigate impacts and repair ecosystem damage, with the goal of accelerating the restoration of impacted and sensitive habitats. A successful candidate will be responsible for laboratory and field-based experimentation utilizing invertebrates, seagrasses and other estuarine organisms. The person will need to travel to field sites in the Indian River Lagoon and Port Canaveral. Management of the laboratory scheduling and supervision of undergraduate students is expected. They will also participate in identifying funding opportunities and preparing application materials, as well as writing reports and manuscripts.
