Custodian

Responsibilities

• Sweeps/cleans exterior entrances daily before buildings open to the public. Picks up cigarette butts and replaces sand in ashtrays.
• Notifies supervisor of light bulb replacement needs.
• Performs weekly tasks as assigned, such as cleaning/vacuuming public seating areas and checking seats for stains and damage, operating floor scrubber on corridor floors.
• Shampoos and spot cleans carpets, and strips and waxes floors as needed.
• Maintains exterior of building, including sweeping steps and sidewalks, removing trash/litter from trash receptacles.
• Responds to general inquiries from the public, such as directions to various departments.
• Cleans spills/messes caused by County personnel and the public as needed.
• Periodically operates floor scrubber on sub-basement corridor floors as assigned. Strips and seals vinyl floors annually. Treats woodwork in corridor quarterly and in courtroom annually.
• Specific shift duties are per the department Procedures Manual.
• Ability to work emergency situations as needed.
• Any other duties as assigned.
• I. JOB REQUIREMENTS :
• High school diploma or GED.
• Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of basic cleaning, sanitation, and safety policies and procedures, and universal health precautions, and ability to ensure safety of self and others.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work orders, material safety data sheets, and product application directions, such as cleaning solutions.
• Ability to properly operate all assigned tools and equipment, such as mops, brooms, shovel, vacuum, floor scrubber and buffer, and snow blower.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, other County personnel, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
• Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
• Ability to comply with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
