As a part of SNHMC Surgical Services, the Endoscopy unit has multiple procedure rooms where staff perform between 12-28 outpatient (80%) and inpatient (20%) procedures per day. Procedures include GI, pulmonology, and outpatient bone marrow biopsies, with most patients receiving anesthesia. The team works flexible shifts and take call shifts to provide care on an emergent basis to our community.
As a member of the Surgical Services team, the Perioperative Support Technician identifies and collects instrumentation and equipment for endoscopy and surgical procedures. This role assists the perioperative team primarily with procedure turnover. The Perioperative Support Technician responds appropriately to emergency situations while working under the direction of the perioperative team.
Responsibilities
Identify and collect instrumentation and equipment for endoscopy and surgical procedures.
Anticipate equipment needs for endoscopy and surgical procedures.
Assist the perioperative team with intra-operative procedures.
Assist the perioperative team with room turnover.
Clean equipment/instruments and the patient care area.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Knowledge of equipment and instrumentation
Frequent use of fine motor and sensory skills.
Ability to achieve the following competencies within 90 days:
Appropriate endoscopy and surgical room turn over and set-up.
Preference cards, where applicable.
Inventory management of supplies
Equipment safety check
Decontaminate, high-level disinfect and sterilize equipment/instruments when needed.
