AbbVie is looking for a seasoned, commercially sharp Senior Brand Manager to take ownership of our hematology portfolio at a pivotal moment in its lifecycle. It is a role for someone who has already navigated the complexity of a highly specialized, hospital-based therapeutic area and is ready to operate at the intersection of science, strategy, and commercial leadership.
You will be expected to bring informed conviction to the table: a point of view on the market, a clear strategic narrative for the brand, and the executive presence to bring senior stakeholders, medical, market access, and commercial teams along with you.
Responsibilities
Brand Strategy & Commercial Leadership
Define and own the long-term strategic direction of AbbVie's hematology brand(s), grounded in deep understanding of the disease area, competitive dynamics, and patient journey.
Translate clinical differentiation into compelling, insight-driven value propositions for stakeholders.
Lead portfolio lifecycle planning - from in-line brand optimization to anticipating competitive threats and shaping strategic responses well ahead of market shifts.
Partner with Global and Regional teams to localize strategy without losing strategic integrity.
Market Intelligence & Insight Generation
Go beyond standard market research: synthesize data from multiple sources into actionable strategic intelligence.
Proactively identify emerging trends in hematology treatment paradigms and translate them into brand opportunity or risk mitigation plans.
Lead competitive scenario planning with rigor and foresight.
Integrated Brand Execution
Develop and lead the execution of sophisticated, multi-channel marketing plans calibrated to the nuances of the hematology specialist community.
Set and steward the brand budget with P&L mindset - making trade-off decisions based on commercial impact, not just activity volume.
Ensure flawless alignment between medical education, market access messaging, and commercial campaigns.
Cross-Functional & External Leadership
Act as the de facto commercial lead within the cross-functional brand team - bringing structure, direction, and momentum.
Collaborate with external partners, agencies, and vendors to enhance brand presence and market penetration.
Work closely with Medical Affairs and Market Access to ensure the brand strategy is supported by robust clinical and health economic evidence.
Performance, Accountability & Governance
Define and track KPIs that reflect true brand health - not just activity metrics, but leading indicators of market share movement.
Present performance reviews and strategic recommendations to senior leadership with clarity and commercial confidence.
Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements.
Requirements
Education
Master's degree is required - in Marketing, Business Administration, Life Sciences, or a related field.
A scientific background (Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, or equivalent) is not a prerequisite, but adds significant value - in the hematology space, deeper scientific literacy strengthens your ability to engage credibly with external partners, medical teams, and data-driven stakeholders.
Experience & Background
Minimum 5-7 years of pharmaceutical brand management experience; oncology or hematology background is a plus, with preference for hospital/specialist setting experience.
A track record of leading brands through complexity: competitive launches, indication expansions, lifecycle pressure, or market access challenges.
Experience working within or alongside global matrix organizations, with proven ability to influence without authority.
Fluency in market access dynamics - you understand how formulary decisions, reimbursement pathways, and payer negotiations shape brand uptake.
Experience in the hematology/oncology treatment landscape is an advantage - we equally welcome candidates from broader oncology backgrounds who bring the intellectual curiosity to master the science fast.
Leadership & Presence
You operate with strategic clarity and communicate it compellingly - to your team & to your external stakeholders
You set the pace, not just respond to it. You anticipate challenges and bring solutions before they become crises.
You are a trusted, credible partner to Medical, Regulatory, and Market Access - not a silo.
High intellectual curiosity - you stay close to the science because you know it makes you a better strategist.
Personal Profile
Commercially courageous: willing to take a position and defend it with data and conviction.
Adaptable and resilient - you thrive in ambiguity and manage complexity without losing focus.
Strong ethical compass - you lead with integrity and hold your team and partners to the same standard.
