Job Description Position Title: Director, Safety Position Reports To: EVP, Health, Safety, Environmental Position Summary The Director of Safety is responsible for the oversight and development of personnel and plans to maintain a safe work environment over a regional area covering multiple lines of business within the construction and industrial construction industry. Essential Functions Participates in the development of safety/operational standards, procedures and policies and leads the implementation of these systems and programs to improve the region's ability to meet industry safety/compliance standards and promote Apache's commitment to the safety of our employees. Audits all work processes to look for potential safety hazards by physically inspecting work areas and job sites and oversee the development of site-specific safety plans for projects to confirm compliance and coach the team on how to solve any deficiencies. Provides strong and visible leadership to the employees, safety team on-site, front-line leaders, area managers, and region management in the design, implementation and performance monitoring of safety management systems and programs. Provides direction and supervision to a team of direct reports (area and regional safety managers) assigned to each area within the respective region. Collaborates with Human Resources and Operations to implement the company substance abuse policy. Works with internal/external customers to ensure safety of all employees and stakeholders across multiple projects simultaneously. Works with regional management to assist in the development and implementation of the region's strategy for reducing and preventing occupational injuries, vehicle incidents and liability claims. Develops tracking mechanisms/KPI to consistently present data points to regional management. Use this data to support corporate KPI development and tracking. Supports overall safety strategy for the business, assign tasks and follow through on execution. Other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree or 7+ years of experience (in place of degree) preferred. Associates degree or 7+ years of experience preferred. 5-10 years of work experience within the petrochemical, industrial and energy sectors preferred Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST or OHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety certifications a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced knowledge and proficiency of safe construction practices as well as customer specific expectations Advanced knowledge and proficiency to evaluate risks prior to project start - working with project team to Ability to interface effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders/personnel Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent assignments Detail oriented with good organizational skills Highly proficient in written and verbal Ability to work effectively and partner with various departments Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under time constraints and deadlines Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration and influencing skills Demonstrated ability to work with team members in a hands-on management capacity Working Conditions/Physical Demands Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods. Light work that includes moving objects up to 40 pounds. Working in hazardous conditions within our customers facilities Required travel between offices and projects located within a specific region/division
