About the role
Our Sustainability Advisory team in Sydney is growing, and as a result we are looking for a new Assistant Manager to help us to deliver high quality, impactful work for our clients across a range of sectors. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team this role will focus on three primary areas: Managing and delivering high-quality, client-focused projects primarily related to carbon emissions accounting, financial impact modelling, and decarbonisation. This role sits within BDO Sydney's CFO Advisory practice, collaborating closely with other advisory and assurance teams on climate and sustainability projects. Key Responsibilities include: Help our clients to determine and disclose their carbon emissions footprint, including scoping, data collection, emissions calculation, and uplift of emissions inventory processes and controls. Critically analyse and interpret the financial impacts of climate-related matters on our clients' business, including assessment and modelling of financial effects for AASB S2. Help our clients to reduce their environmental impact by developing practical decarbonisation strategies, emissions reduction initiatives, and transition plans across operations and value chains. Assist clients to set their decarbonisation commitments and emissions reduction targets, helping to embed these into business planning, decision-making, and performance management. Manage client engagements, including workshop facilitation, client presentations, and end‑to‑end engagement delivery. Help clients to understand and align with a range of sustainability frameworks and guidelines. Contribute to winning work by understanding clients' needs and developing proposals. Contribute to the development of market-leading sustainability tools and methodologies. Lead and train junior team members. About You This role is ideally suited to who is genuinely passionate about building a long-term career in sustainability reporting and wants to make a meaningful difference. Our successful candidate will have experience delivering emissions accounting and measurement engagements, financial impact assessments, and/or decarbonisation/transition planning projects. Combined with: Technical background in accounting, sustainability, environmental science, engineering, finance, economics, or a similar discipline relevant to emissions, decarbonisation, or climate-related financial impact assessment. Working knowledge of recognised emissions accounting and decarbonisation standards and frameworks, such as GHG Protocol, PCAF, SBTi, CDP, and AASB S2. Strong quantitative and data analytics skills, including the ability to analyse emissions data, develop financial impact and emissions reduction models, develop marginal abatement cost curves, and translate technical analysis into clear client insights. Demonstrable experience collaborating with senior stakeholders across a broad range of clients and industries, including facilitating workshops and delivering presentations. Exposure developing proposals, winning work and nurturing client relationships. Project management experience, including managing the delivery of multiple client engagements at the same time, with budget and resource management. Why BDO?
