Position Description The Anoka County Sheriff's Office mission is to protect and serve the community in a manner that preserves the public trust. The department has an immediate opening for Court Security Deputy - Temp who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include ensuring the protection of judges, court officers, county employees, witnesses and civilians in the courtroom, adjacent waiting areas and county offices. This is a temporary, non-exempt, on-site position. These part-time, temporary positions are intermittent up to 21 hours per week. The schedule will generally be daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Pay & Benefits Salary: $38.59 per hour Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work at the Anoka County Courthouse located at 2100 3rd Avenue, Anoka, MN. Expected work hours are up to 21 hours per week based on departmental needs. The schedule will generally be daytime hours, Monday through Friday. Provide court security duties. Call the court to order. Escort in-custody defendants to and from court. Maintain order in the courtroom, ensuring the litigants, attorneys, court employees, and spectators conduct themselves appropriately. Protect and guard court exhibits and deliver the verdict to the judge. Set up search operations to screen members of the public who seek admittance to the courtrooms. Work and cooperate with jail employees to safely supervise inmate movement from jail facility to courts. Investigate and prepare reports on accidents and offenses. Assist in serving warrants, summons and other processes on persons. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires an associate's degree and at least 2 years of job-related experience In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis Must currently be licensed or license eligible by the Minnesota Board of Peace Offices Standard and Training as a full-time peace officer OR retired in good standing as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota and current with POST license requirements Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Criminal Justice of related field Knowledge of laws, judicial procedures, regulations, rules and guidelines related to crime and evidence Strong verbal and written communication skills Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites both indoor and outdoor, may include emergency or disaster response sites in uncontrolled environments depending on assignment Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.
