GIS Engineer/Analyst

ROLE OVERVIEW We have an immediate need for a skilled GIS Engineer/Analyst to work on a part time or freelance basis. In this role, you will be responsible for bringing geospatial data into our system, answering questions about the data, and automating processes through scripting. You will also collaborate with various teams to support the development of strategic route plans for our retail client. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Your duties will include analyzing spatial data both within and outside our platform, creating shapefiles to merge topographical data with external data sources, and obtaining, cleaning, and processing Census files for integration onto our platform. Additionally, you will develop mapping applications and tools, perform data munging and cleaning, and produce reports using data visualizations. You will also manage a digital library of geographic maps in various file formats. ABOUT YOU We are looking for someone with scripting proficiency, particularly in GIS, Python, as well as SQL proficiency for writing spatial queries using PostgresQL with PostGIS. You should have GIS analysis skills and be comfortable working in an open-source ecosystem. Adaptability is key, as you will often encounter complex problems that require creative solutions. Strong communication skills are also essential, as you will need to communicate project status and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience with Open Source QGIS/Esri ArcGIS technology, including ArcGIS Pro and the Network Analyst extension, although experience with ArcGIS Enterprise is desirable. Knowledge of Python programming and ArcPy scripting is preferred, along with strong time-management, communication, and organizational skills. A minimum of two years of GIS experience with network analysis or an associate degree in a related field is required.
