  • Essential Functions
  • Leadership
  • In coordination with leadership, is responsible for the oversight of the Spiritual Care Department in clinically designated areas, and the delivery of spiritual care to patients, families, and staff.
  • Responsible for the development and coordination of spiritual care rituals as needed.
  • Is responsible for the administrative oversight of all Spiritual Care related tasks, including development and monitoring of budget, department programs, and databases.
  • Responsible for policy and procedure review of system-wide policies relative to the Spiritual Care department. Represents the hospital with Sharp system peers to advocate for consistency and improvement of the quality of Spiritual Care being provided at Sharp HealthCare facilities.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, and system-wide activities as appropriate.
  • Oversees the daily tasks of the Spiritual Care Team. Assists leadership with and provides feedback on performance reviews and counseling as needed.
  • Sets daily priorities for the shift and revises schedule based on patient/family needs. Communicates these priorities with the appropriate spiritual care staff. Visit frequencies are established for ongoing patient care with specific timeframes identified.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Delivery of Service and Documentation
  • Assess, formulate, and utilize spiritual assessments, interventions, outcomes and care plans in order to contribute effectively to the well-being of the person receiving care. This assessment is to be completed and documented within the shift.
  • Responsible for the delivery of individual and group spiritual care for patients, families, and staff in clinically designated areas.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary in a timely manner (hospital setting this may include Code Blue and trauma code), offering integrative healing modalities and spiritual care.
  • Helps patients, families, and staff address bioethical issues, organ donation, preparation of advance healthcare directives, and facilitates treatment decisions based on patient values.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and/or care conferences, when appropriate.
  • Responsible for the charting and documentation of all spiritual care visits.
  • Provides appropriate rituals/services for patient and family that include rituals for the newborn, end of life rituals, memorial services, and other rituals that serve to celebrate, comfort and encourage staff.
  • Training and Education
  • Provides orientation to new staff, per diem staff, volunteers, etc. Participates in interviews of prospective candidates.
  • Develops and implements a program of staff in-service and education, including new employee orientation and other in-services as needed.
  • Volunteer Management
  • Responsible for oversight of volunteers serving the Spiritual Care Department with screening, recruiting, orienting and training. Responsible for the quality of the work, data collection, coaching and mentoring of department volunteers.
  • Customer Service
  • Consistently communicates in a positive and timely manner with staff members, Sharp employees, physicians, patients and visitors.

Hours : Shift Start Time: 8 AM Shift End Time: 4:30 PM AWS Hours Requirement: 8/40 - 8 Hour Shift Additional Shift Information: Weekend Requirements: No Weekends On-Call Required: No Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum): $39.690 - $51.220 - $57.370 The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant's years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
