As the Assistant Controller for the Coastal Community Bank, you will oversee daily accounting activities and ensure financial statement data aligns with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. You will manage and supervise staff, provide escalation support, and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. This role requires discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance, including complex accounting issues and partner program agreements. Individuals must be willing to work a standard Pacific time zone schedule, including occasional late days/evenings in the Pacific time zone. RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE Ensure all daily accounting activities and financial statement data are prepared in accordance with GAAP and regulatory agency requirements. Manage and supervise assigned staff, providing guidance and escalation support as needed. Review and approve staff accounting entries to ensure accuracy and completeness. Assist with Accounting Systems, including implementing software for GL, travel and expense, reconciliation tools, accounts payable, and others as needed. Participate in the review, interpretation, and clarification of technical accounting for several concepts including leases, taxes, income and expense recognition and cutoff, and more. Develop streamlined processes for entries, including allocations between the Company's segments, branches, and CCBX partners. Specific areas of supervision may include: daily cash position, CD investments, security investments, fixed assets and prepaids, accounts payable, coordinating monthly certification of GL, borrowings, leases, and payroll and stock equity award accounting. Supervise daily accounting processes including journal entries, intercompany clearing, posting callbacks, and monitoring daily balance sheet and income statement activity. Supervise month-end close process and general ledger personnel. Prepare or supervise preparation of regulatory reporting including FR2900 reporting, Reg W, FHLB or other collateral safekeeping and audits, and assisting with others like Call Report or FR Y-9 reporting. Provide accounting assistance to business partners as needed throughout the company. Perform monthly analysis of revenue, expense, and actual/budget variances and identify reasons for differences. Assist with preparation of financial schedules for internal auditors, external auditors, and regulators. Prepare or supervise preparation of state and local taxes as well as the monthly and quarterly income tax provision. Assist with the preparation of quarterly federal tax payments and Corporate tax returns. Ensure department is performing in accordance with internal policies/procedures and regulatory compliance rules and regulations. Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external teams. Develop and implement efficient accounting policies, procedures, and best practices. Own, maintain, and oversee the implementation of department procedures, recommending process improvements to management.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to manage and supervise staff, ensuring accountability and performance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (specifically advanced skills with Excel).
  • Prioritizing and multi-tasking skills in a demanding and fast paced environment.
  • Previous banking experience preferred.
  • Oracle ERP and Fusion GL experience preferred.
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant accounting experience. Experience with accounting in a bank required.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience, demonstrating the ability to manage staff, oversee tasks, and provide effective escalation support.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
