About the role

Coordinates, develops, implements, and maintains SHE policies, procedures, and programs for regulatory compliance, company Directives, and site/Bay Area-wide initiatives-managing critical programs such as Hazardous and Medical Waste, Industrial Wastewater, Compressed Gases, TSCA/FIFRA, and Refrigerant Management. Develops, implements, and conducts formal campus-wide SHE inspections and audits; assists with or leads external audits and tracks resolution of issues. Provides technical expertise to management and staff in resolving difficult problems, interpreting laws, regulations, and Roche standards while supporting new staff orientation and training. Analyzes key program areas and trends; works with vendors and business functions to identify opportunities, implement initiatives, and establish systems to track, measure, and report on assigned activities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in physical science, life science, environmental sciences, engineering, safety, industrial hygiene, or other relevant field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in industries such as diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, or related sectors with demonstrated expertise in SHE programs.
  • Proven ability to influence opinions and drive change across multiple business functions and units without direct authority, with strong knowledge and application of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific, technical, and regulatory information to diverse audiences and audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective training materials while building and maintaining smooth, cooperative working relationships across multiple departments and business units
  • Preferred Skills: Completion of a national certification, or ability to obtain, such as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
