The ideal candidate is a self-motivated engineer with a versatile skill set who is comfortable working across many layers of technical depth. The person in this role will fully own the delivery of infrared camera subsystems to multiple concurrent programs. Previous experience with development of camera subsystems for integration into complex electro-optical systems in fast-paced and small-team environments is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Own development of visible and thermal infrared camera subsystems including generation of technical specifications and interface control documents (ICDs), trade studies, vendor technical management, performance characterization and testing, and failure mode and root cause analysis.
- Define camera test requirements, pass/fail criteria, and test strategies, partnering closely with the hardware and test engineering teams to ensure infrastructure meets subsystem needs.
- Define parameters for camera environmental qualification campaigns, including radiation testing and thermal environmental stress screening (ESS), reviewing test data and acting as the technical authority on camera subsystem health.
- Support subsystem and instrument-level testing, including environmental (vibration, thermal-vacuum (TVAC) testing and system characterization/V&V.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of best practices, processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in instrument development.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with instrument and spacecraft systems engineers, data scientists, AI&T and production teams, and program managers.

- Experience working with precision optical and mechanical metrology equipment.
- Experience with root cause analysis efforts including data analysis and testing.
- Experience performing data analysis, post-processing, and test report generation for optical component and camera system performance.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week.
- Nice-to-have Skills
- Exposure to design and analysis of optical components and systems.
- Experience with risk management, including risk tracking and development and implementation of mitigation plans.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments.
